1,700 kg poppy husk seized from truck in Moga; 2 arrested

85 plastic bags — each filled with 20 kg of poppy husk — were found in the vehicle

In a drug trafficking case, the CIA staff of Moga police recovered 1,700 kilograms of poppy husk and arrested two accused during a special operation near Bhinder Kalan village today.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a truck near the Ludhiana highway, finding it suspiciously parked. Upon inspection, 85 plastic bags — each filled with 20 kg of poppy husk — were found in the vehicle.

The arrested accused have been identified as Gurjant Singh alias Bolla, a resident of Bhinder Kalan in Moga district; and Kailash Kumar, a resident of Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Both were caught red-handed while transporting the contraband.

An FIR under Sections 15, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at CIA Moga Police Station. The accused were produced in court today and police remand was obtained.

Dharamkot DSP Ramandeep Singh supervised the raid. Further interrogation is underway to trace the drug supply chain and possible links to larger trafficking networks.
