Chandigarh, June 10

Punjab is set to boost the ongoing vaccination drive for priority groups in the 18-44 age group by adding more categories from June 12.

Nodal officer for vaccination Vikas Garg today said the state would receive as many as 1,93,380 doses of vaccine from the Government of India on Friday. Of these, 1,56,720 doses were of Covishield and the remaining 36,660 of Covaxin.

The officer said on the directions of the Chief Minister, the government had added more categories to the priority groups. These included shopkeepers and their staff; gym owners and their trainers; staff working in the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, marriage palaces, caterers), including cooks, bearers; industrial workers; rehriwala and street vendors, especially those serving food items; delivery boys and LPG distribution boys; bus drivers, conductors and auto/taxi drivers; ULB and PRI representative, such as mayor, councillor, sarpanch, panch, member of zila parishad and panchayat samiti; and students going abroad.

Besides, priority for 10 per cent additional doses would be decided by the district administration concerned. Already, 5,01,550 persons have been vaccinated from 5.43 lakh doses procured at a cost of Rs 17.25 crore for the age group. — TNS
