Faridkot, November 18
For 40 MD/MS Sikh minority quota seats in Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College (SGRDMC), Amritsar, the college authorities have declared 87 out of the 277 applicants eligible for admission. While 171 applicants did not report during their physical verification, the claim of 19 applicants was rejected as they had allegedly shorn their hair.
SGPC-owned SGRDMC has 79 MD/MS seats and 40 are reserved under Sikh minority quota. To get admission on these seats, there is a precondition for maintaining “Sikh Swarup”. Days before the starting of counseling to make admission on 672 MD/MS seats in seven medical colleges in the state, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) had received applications from 277 candidates who claimed to be Sikhs. The BFUHS had sent this list to SGRDMC to verify their claim. When called for physical verification, 171 applicants did not report, while 19 were found to have shorn hair, making them ineligible. — TNS
