Faridkot, March 19
The Department of Medical Education and Research today announced suspension of some classes of medical, dental and allied courses in the colleges affiliated with the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) and Guru Ravidas Ayurveda University from March 20 to March 31 as a precautionary measure in the wake of Covid-19 scare.
No classes will be held for the first and second year students of the MBBS, BDS and BAMS in the state. For the students of BSc (Nursing), GNM, ANM and all other allied courses, no classes would be held for the first year students till March 31, said DK Tiwari, Principal Secretary of the department.
Across the country, schools and universities are suspending classes or moving to online lectures.
The first and second-year medical, dental and nursing students can transition to remote platforms, but the third and fourth-year students of medical courses work in hospitals.
The BFUHS also clarified that nursing, paramedical and medical colleges would continue working till further orders.
On Wednesday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had written a letter to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, drawing his attention to holding of classes in the medical colleges. The IMA had objected to different parameters for schools, colleges, academic institutions and the medical colleges.
The IMA said it had cancelled thousands of meetings across the country, but the running of the colleges was sending a wrong message to society. It had sought intervention of the minister to save the young medical students from getting infected inadvertently.
