Father-son duo arrested in Hoshiarpur shooting case
Following the attack, the shop owner received a threatening call demanding Rs 20 lakh in extortion
The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, in collaboration with Hoshiarpur Police, has successfully apprehended Krishan Gopal and his son Keshav, residents of village Baincha in Hoshiarpur, who were involved in a targeted shooting at Ganpati Jewellers in Hoshiarpur on October 18.
The incident occurred when the two assailants on motorcycles opened fire on the premises of Ganpati Jewellers, creating panic among shopkeepers and customers. “Following the attack, the shop owner received a threatening call from an unknown foreign number, demanding ₹20 lakh in extortion,” Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav shared.
The police teams, led by SP (Investigation) Parminder Singh, Incharge CIA Hoshiarpur Gurpreet Singh, and Incharge AGTF Chander Mohan, intercepted the suspects at village Mehdoodpur in Hoshiarpur. During the encounter, the suspects resorted to indiscriminate firing on the police party but were overpowered after a brief exchange of fire. A .32 caliber pistol along with live cartridges and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession.
A case FIR no. 170 was registered under Sections 336, 324(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur. Further investigations are ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case. A fresh case FIR no. 172 has been registered under Sections 109, 221, 132, and 3(5) of BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur.
