2 arrested for defacing Ambedkar statue in Phillaur

The Phillaur police have arrested two individuals accused of writing Khalistani slogans on the statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in Nangal village. The accused have been identified as Sukhveer Singh and Avtar Singh, both residents of Noorpur Channa in Nakodar.

Acting on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (Jalandhar Rural) Jaspreet Kaur Bath, and under the supervision of DSP Sarwan Singh Ball and Inspector Sanjeev Kapur, the police launched an operation that led to the arrests.

Jalandhar DIG Naveen Singla said a case has been registered under FIR No 85 dated March 31, 2025, invoking Sections 299 and 113 of the BNS, along with Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The DIG said the accused had been involved in multiple acts of provocation over the last month, including putting up Khalistani slogans and flags at educational institutions, government buildings and public infrastructure in Nakodar, Jalandhar, Delhi and Una.

A motorcycle and four mobile phones were also seized, which are now under forensic examination.
