Nakodar, March 5
The police on Thursday arrested two persons and booked 28 others for allegedly outraging religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
Nakodar ASP Vatsla Gupta said the arrested accused had been identified as Balwindar Malarri, a resident of Malarri village, and Darmindar Nangal, a resident of Nangal Jiwan village.
The others who have been booked include Balkar Sahota, a resident of Mohalla Sundar Nagar, Major Singh, a resident of Nangal Jiwan village, Avinash, a resident of Hairan village, among other 25 unidentified accomplices.
Complainant Balvir Singh Cheema, a resident of Nurmahal town, said he was a social activist and was returning from the Sadar police station on Wednesday when the accused attacked him with stones near the main gate of his house, removed his turban and dragged him by his hair. He said the intention behind the attack was to kill him.
The ASP said a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious feelings), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 148 and 149 (rioting) of the IPC.
