2 cops hurt in attack during drug raid in Gidderbaha

Two police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were allegedly attacked on Thursday evening during a drug search operation in the shanties along the Bharu road in Gidderbaha.

Injured ASI Raj Bahadur Singh and Constable Jaspreet Singh are admitted to the Gidderbaha Civil Hospital. They said they had gone to the area to check drug-related activities under the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign.

“The situation turned violent as some residents, including men and women, assaulted us. Later, we informed senior officials about the incident,” said ASI Raj Bahadur.

Gidderbaha DSP Avtar Singh on Friday said, “The attackers used sticks, stones and bricks to assault cops. The cops were trying to conduct a search operation when the incident occurred. All four suspects in the case, including two women, have been arrested.” A case under Sections 221, 132, 121(1) and 3(5) of the BNS has been registered.
