2 gangsters held after encounter
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, arrested two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang after an encounter near Wadala Chowk on Wednesday morning. One accused sustained bullet injuries during the crossfire.
The suspects, identified as Balraj Singh, alias Ballu, and Pawan Kumar, were wanted in connection with several crimes, including snatching, robbery and murder bids. Acting on a tip-off about their presence in the city and plans to execute a major crime, the police set up a barricade to intercept them. During the operation, Balraj Singh opened fire on the police, but was injured in retaliatory firing. He was subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Pawan Kumar tried to escape, but was apprehended by the police.
The police seized four illegal weapons, including a .32 bore pistol with 12 cartridges and a 9 mm pistol with one cartridge. The car used by the duo was also impounded.
An FIR has been registered at the Bhargo Camp police station under Sections 221, 132 and 109 of the BNS and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
