Two suspected gangsters were injured in a police encounter early Monday morning in the Shahkot area of Jalandhar. The incident took place near the Kotli Gajran railway police station, where the suspects were allegedly involved in the illegal supply of narcotic substances.

According to the Jalandhar Rural Police, the accused were intercepted by a police team beneath the Shahkot railway crossing bridge. When officers attempted to stop them, the duo allegedly opened fire, prompting retaliatory action by the police. Both suspects sustained injuries in the ensuing exchange of gunfire.

Police immediately arrested the two men and recovered firearms and a significant quantity of narcotics from the scene. The injured suspects were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harvinder Singh Virk, along with other senior officials, reached the encounter site shortly afterward. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects have multiple criminal cases registered against them, including charges of drug trafficking and other serious offenses.

A deeper investigation is underway to determine the extent of the duo’s criminal activities. Authorities are currently mapping their involvement across various districts in Punjab and probing potential plans for future criminal acts.
