The police said it appeared the packet was found in a Narma cotton field today, and it was dropped from a drone a few days ago. They said it was suspected to contain about 2 kg of heroin and its price according to the international market was around Rs 10 crore.

This is the second case of heroin packets being dropped in India from through the International Border in the Sriganganagar area within the last four days.

Four days ago, in Dhanur village, the police had caught Gagandeep Singh, a youth from the same village, when he was bringing home a packet that contained 2 kg of heroin.

The police said during interrogation, Gagandeep said his father, Joginder Singh, had ordered the heroin through smugglers from across the border. They said a case under the NDPS Act has previously been registered against Joginder Singh and he was lodged in the Srikaranpur jail. The police said during his time in jail, he befriended an inmate who reportedly provided the contact number of the smugglers, and after he came out of the jail, he came in contact with them and began placing orders for narcotics.

The BSF and police officials said the investigation was on.
