Two passengers were killed and 15 others sustained injuries as a Punjab Roadways bus collided head-on with a scrap-laden canter near Tahliwala Bodla village on the Fazilka-Malout road on Wednesday evening.

The collision was so fierce that it took an hour to rescue the trapped driver.

According to Dr Edison Eric, Senior Medical Officer, Civil Hospital, Fazilka, persons with minor injuries were admitted in the local civil hospital while two seriously injured had been referred to Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot.

One of the deceased has been identified as Sonu, a resident of Muktsar, and the other is yet to be identified.

Some of the injured have been identified as Shunty, Balwinder Kumar, Ranjit Kumar, Sheela, Som Lal, Sumit Kumar, Manish, Ferdous Ahmed, Punjab Singh, Rani, Altaf, and Sanjay.

Local residents and commuters rushed to the spot to help the victims. The Sarak Surksha Force was called in to shift the injured to hospital.
