With two more persons succumbing to Covid-19 in Ludhiana and Jalandhar, the total number of casualties in the state has reached 44.
Besides this, 33 fresh cases were reported today and the state count has reached 2,223.
As per a government bulletin, Amritsar and Pathankot reported eight cases each; Bathinda five; SAS Nagar four; Patiala, Sangrur, Fazilka and Hoshiarpur two each; and Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Fatehgarh Sahib one each.

According to Dr Rajesh Bhaskar, Nodal Officer for Covid in the state, both deaths were reported from the DMCH, Ludhiana. One of the deceased hailed from Chowni Mohalla in Ludhiana. The patient was admitted to Deep Hospital, Ludhiana, three days ago with high fever. He also had urinary tract infection. Later, he was shifted to the DMCH and tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, Medical Superintendent, DMCH, said the patient was shifted from Deep Hospital in a serious condition and was intubated, but he died on Friday evening.
Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga confirmed the death of the Covid patient.
The second patient who died at the DMCH hailed from Jalandhar.
With eight more Covid cases being reported today, the total count in Amritsar has risen to 374. Four patients hailed from Hathi Gate, Green Avenue, Gilwali Gate and Baba Bakala. All four had no travel or contact history.
The remaining eight are contacts of four positive cases. These include four from Gate Hakeema, two from Lashmansar Chowk, one each from Rani Ka Bagh and Gilwali Gate. The district now has 73 active cases with two on oxygen support.
