2 officials booked after farmer dies by suicide

A day after a 45-year-old farmer from Dhalewan village here allegedly died by suicide after consuming a poisonous substance, the police have booked a retired SDO and a serving SDO of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).The deceased, Jugraj Singh, owned nearly 2.5 acres of land and had purchased a tubewell motor connection from another farmer a few years ago. He reportedly left a suicide note blaming the officials for failing to transfer the connection to his name despite completing all formalities.Those booked have been identified as retired SDO Ravinder Singh and SDO Mahinderpal Singh.

Meanwhile, some farmer leaders had yesterday warned that the body would not be sent for post-mortem until action was taken against the officials.
