Ropar, August 7

Two pilgrims were killed, while 32 others injured when a tractor-trailer in which they were travelling overturned on the Ropar-Kiratpur Sahib road around 9.30 pm yesterday, the police said.

The deceased have been identified as Jaggar (46) and Nawabdeen (19), both residents of Fatehabad district in Haryana.

The pilgrims were on their way to Naina Devi temple.

The injured were taken to the Bharatgarh Community Health Centre and Ropar Civil Hospital. Jaggar and Nawabdeen were declared brought dead.

The others were administered the first-aid and discharged later. The police have said the tractor-trailer driver lost control over the vehicle near Bada Pind village.

The inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC.

The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families after the post-mortem examination, the police said.
