2 spa centres raided in Phagwara, 14 booked for flesh trade
The Phagwara police have booked 14 persons and arrested 11 of them, including nine girls, under Sections 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act for allegedly running a sex racket. The action followed raids on two spa centres – one in the old sabzi mandi area and another near Hargobind Nagar here.
Though the police arrested those present at the centres, owners of both establishments are absconding.
Kapurthala SSP Vatsalya Gupta said the police got a tip-off about a sex racket being run from the two centres. Following this, policemen in civvies were deputed to keep a watch on such activities. The SSP said under the supervision of Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, raids were carried out at both centres.
Bhatti said there were many intermediaries too. She said the police had registered two separate FIRs. In the first case, an FIR was registered against seven persons, including Diamond Spa’s owner Prince.
In the second case, the police arrested five persons from Heaven Spa Centre. Several more arrests are likely, she added.
