In a freak accident, two watchmen were buried alive under wheat bags, which fell down from the rakes at a private godown rented by the state warehouse corporation at Baghapurana town in the district, police officials said here today.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Paramjit Singh reached the spot immediately after coming to know about the incident.
He said one Arshdeep Singh, a local resident, told the police that his father Bhajan Singh (55) was working as a watchman in the godown along with Baljit Singh (54), a resident of Jaimalwala village.
Today, when Arshdeep tried to contact his father on mobile phone, he (father) did not pick up the call. Later, Arshdeep immediately reached the godown and found that many bags loaded with wheat were lying scattered.
Later, he found his father and his colleague buried from under the wheat bags. They were declared brought dead at the District Hospital.
After getting the post-mortem examination done, the police handed over the bodies to family members for cremation.
