Fazilka: 2-year-old boy falls into borewell, rescued
Fazilka, July 23
A two-year-old child fell into a borewell in the local grain market this evening and was rescued after efforts of nearly an hour. Tuntun, son of a migrant labourer, fell into a 12-foot-deep open borewell while playing in the grain market. A companion of the child informed nearby persons, who reached the spot and started a rescue operation.
Teams of the civil and police administration, the Health Department, members of Shah Satnam Ji Green S Welfare Force and a fire engine reached the spot and dug a pit alongside the borewell and rescued the child. It is learnt that a hand pump was uprooted from the site but the pit was not filled with earth, resulting in the mishap.
Teams of the Army and the NDRF were also summoned, but after the rescue of the child, these were asked to return midway.
Tuntun has been admitted to the local Civil Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.
Fazilka DC Senu Duggal ordered a judicial probe into the incident. She asked the SDM to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within three days.
