The district police have constituted a special team to arrest self-styled pastor Jashan Gill in connection with a case registered in 2023 following allegations of rape and death due to abortion-related complications.

SSP Aditya said Jashan had been declared a proclaimed offender. “Efforts are on to arrest him. A challan was presented in a Gurdaspur court last month,” he said. A man has accused Jashan of allegedly raping his 22-year-old daughter, impregnating her and forcing her to undergo abortion that led to her death. The complainant alleged that the pastor had bribed the police, following which no action was being taken against him. The SSP, however, rubbished the charge saying nobody was above the law, and that the accused would be behind bars soon.

The man alleged that his daughter, a BCA student then, was misled by the pastor. “The pastor took her to a doctor at Khokhar village along the Gurdaspur-Batala road where an unsafe abortion was performed. After she developed complications, she was shifted to an Amritsar hospital where she died during treatment,” he alleged.

The complainant said the incident occurred in 2023, but the pastor had not been arrested yet.
