The body of an 18-year-old youth, who was identified as Harpreet Sunny, was found near a pond in Sappanwali village, 14 km from here.

The family members of the deceased said that he used to work as a manual labourer. They said some youths from the same village would often take him with them and force him to take drugs, but he refused to do so. They said the youths came last night too and took Sunny with them; however, this time he did not return.

Today morning, some youths came to the house and informed the family that Sunny’s body was lying near the village pond. The family suspected the role of the youths who had been forcing him to take drugs.

The Khuian Sarwar police station incharge, Sunil Kumar, said his team reached the spot and began an investigation. He said statements of the family members of the deceased have been recorded and the youths they were suspecting would be questioned.

The victim’s father, Ashwini Kumar, said Kabir worked at a handloom shop. He said Kabir fell into a bit of intoxication, which was also being treated. He said last night Kabir left home saying he was going to meet his friends in Sarabha Nagar; however, he did not return.

Today, some people sent footage and videos of his body lying in the bushes.

The city-1 police station Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh and his team reached the spot and brought the body to the mortuary of the hospital. The family told the police that they did not want to take any legal action.
