Moga, June 8
A 23-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a youth at Rania village in Nihalsinghwala subdivision of Moga.
The victim told the police that owing to a dispute with her husband, she had been living at her parents’ house in Rania village for the past few months.
On Sunday evening, she had gone out to Badhni Kalan village to run some errands when a village youth, Jagjit Singh, who was known to her, offered her a ride on his motorcycle.
Subsequently, around 7.45 pm, the accused took the woman to a field and raped her. It was only after the woman cried for help, the youth fled away from the spot.
After returning home on foot, she narrated the incident to her parents, who then called the police.
A medical examination report read that prima facie the woman was raped, the police said.
Sub-Inspector Kirandeep Kaur, who is investigating the case, said an FIR under Section 376 had been registered against Jagjit Singh at the Badhni Kalan police station and a hunt had been launched to nab the culprit.
