Moga, April 24
A 29-year-old Dalit woman, who is also a widow, was allegedly raped in her in-laws’ house at Manuke Gill village in Nihalsinghwala sub-division here, said the police officials today.
The accused has been identified as Rinku, who resided in victims’ neighbourhood.
Investigating officer (IO) ASI Kulwinder Kaur said the police reached the house of accused Rinku, but the latter was not found there.
As per information, at 4 am, Rinku scaled the outer wall and entered the house of the victim and raped her. When the victim shouted for help, her father-in-law reached out for her but the accused had fled by then.
The woman informed the local police about the incident and was subsequently taken to Nihalsinghwala Civil Hospital for medical examination. Later, she was referred to Moga district hospital, where she is undergoing treatment at present.
The medical reports confirmed that she was sexually assaulted, said the doctors.
The accused has been booked under relevant section of the IPC.
