3 arrested with 1 kg heroin, Rs 45.19 lakh

The police in two separate instances arrested three persons for drug smuggling and seized 1.01 kg of heroin, besides Rs 45.19 lakh in cash, from their possession here on Saturday.

Those arrested have been identified as Rahul Singh, alias Kalu (20), of Thathi Sohal in Tarn Taran, Gurmukh Singh (21) of Sudhar Rajputan village in Amritsar and Varinderpal Singh (32), a resident of Akalgarh Dhaphian village.

Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said they seized 510 gm of heroin and Rs 30.18 lakh from Rahul from his rented house at Anand Vihar in Amritsar.

He said preliminary investigation indicated that Rahul was in contact with foreign-based drug smuggler Tony German and was supplying heroin locally after receiving the consignments from across the border. In another operation, Bhullar said police teams arrested Gurmukh Singh and Varinder Pal Singh. The police seized 500 gm of heroin and Rs 15.19 lakh in cash from them.
