3 gangsters arrested after encounter in Ropar

The Ropar police arrested three gangsters hiding in a dilapidated building after a brief exchange of fire in Bhindran Nagar area of district today. They had shot a person in Amritsar (Rural) on July 4.

Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the Ropar CIA in-charge received information about three persons with criminal background hiding in a dilapidated building on the banks of the Sutlej River in Bhindran Nagar area of the district. The police teams surrounded the building at around 1.30 pm. A person saw the police party and started firing, which hit their vehicle. The police resorted to retaliatory fire and the three accused were arrested after a brief encounter.

Those arrested are: Gurvinder Singh alias Bhola, resident of Channanke village, Amritsar Rural; Navtej Singh alias Teji, resident of Jabbowal village, Amritsar; and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, resident of Sran village, Amritsar.

The SSP said that during the firing, Bhola was shot in the right thigh and was sent to Ropar Government Hospital for treatment. He has now been referred to PGI Chandigarh.

A case under Section 109, 3(5) BNS and Arms Act has been registered against the accused at police station Nurpur Bedi. A 9 mm Glock pistol along with a magazine, 01 live cartridge and 03 shells were recovered from Bhola.

The SSP said that after the interrogation, it was found that the accused had killed Jugraj Singh (28) on July 4 at around 7.45 am in front of Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib’s gate in Channanke. After committing the crime, the accused were absconding. The police officials were continuously conducting raids to catch them.

A case under Section 103(1), 3(5), BNS-2023, 25/54/59 Arms Act has been registered against these accused at Police Station Mehta Amritsar (Rural).

He said that the accused are being produced in court and seeking police remand as there is a possibility of more revelations from them.
