Security forces seized 3 kg heroin tied to a hook of a drone, which fell in a field near Vijeta border outpost (BOP) in Sriganganagar sector on Saturday.
Sources said Kalu Ram of Chak 29-APD village in Anoopgarh, who was sleeping at his farm, heard a loud thud around 3:45 am. During inspection of his field, he found a drone with a yellow-coloured packet tied to it.
Ram informed the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans stationed at the Vijeta BOP. Soon, the BSF informed the police and nakas were set up in the area to nab the drug peddlers.
The BSF, police and intelligence agencies conducted a search operation in the entire area but no other packet or drone was found. The police sources said the value of the contraband was estimated to be around Rs 15 crore in the international market.
Sources added that the Chinese drone would be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, New Delhi, for analysis.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the drone fell due to a technical snag. A case has been registered against unknown persons.
On July 23 and 24, the BSF had seized heroin worth
Rs 30 crore.
A total of 41.47 kg heroin, valued more than Rs 200 crore, smuggled from Pakistan has been confiscated in this sector.
