3 killed, 3 hurt in road mishap on Patiala-Rajpura Road
A couple and their son were killed, while three youngsters were injured in an accident between two cars at the Daun Kalan turn on the Patiala-Rajpura highway this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Sidhant Babbar (25), his mother Kusam Lata (53) and father Pawan Kumar (58), residents of Dabwali.
The injured youths are Navneet Kaur (18) and Mehak (18) from Bhadson and Sukhchain Singh (21) from Nabha.
According to the police, some victims were rushed to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. Pawan Kumar and Kusum Lata died during treatment, while Sidhant Babbar, who was rushed to a private hospital near the bus stand, also succumbed to his injuries.
The couple and their son were returning to Dabwali after attending a function at the house of their daughter in Panchkula.
The mishap took place when the driver of a speeding grey Suzuki Brezza, going from Patiala, lost control over the vehicle, making it jump over the divider and collide head-on with a white Hyundai Alcazar in which the youth and his parents were heading from the Rajpura side. The impact left both vehicles completely mangled.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Bahadurgarh police arrived at the scene and with the assistance of passersby, extricated the injured from the wreckage. Three ambulances were deployed to transport them to the hospital.
Reports suggested that the Brezza was being driven by a young girl.
Preliminary findings indicated that the speedometer of the Brezza was reportedly stuck at 130 km/hour, suggesting that the vehicle was moving at an alarmingly high speed.
