Three persons were killed and nine injured in two road accidents due to thick fog in Fazilka district on Sunday.

Sources said members of a family from Mohar Sona border village were headed towards the Beas to immerse ashes of an elderly woman when the accident occurred. As their pick-up vehicle with 20 persons onboard, reached near Lakhe Karaian village on the Fazilka-Ferozepur highway, it collided head on with a truck-trailer coming from the opposite direction.

Dalbir Singh (50) and Rucku Bai (60) were killed on the spot, while seven others suffered injuries. They were taken to the Civil Hospital from where one of them was referred to a Bathinda hospital.

In another accident, one person was killed and two were injured as a Canter hit a bike. Jhanga Wala Uttar village Sarpanch Gurdev Singh said three workers were returning from the Maghi Mela on a bike when it collided with a Canter near Phalian Wala village, resulting in the death of Parmjit Singh (30) and injuries to two others.

Eyewitnesses in both cases said dense fog was the reason behind the accidents.
