3 more shooting accused nabbed after exchange of fire

In a late-night joint operation of the Punjab Police and sleuths of the Counter Intelligence (CI), three accused, involved in the intra-gang firing incident on Friday evening in the city area in which a youth, Ashu Monga, was killed, were nabbed after a brief exchange of fire.

Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG, Ferozepur Range, said following inputs, a naka was laid near Ratta Khera village in the Ghall Khurd block in which accused, Amarjeet, Sonu and Gurjinder Singh, alias Guri, came to the place. "The accused tried to flee from the spot and starting firing at the police, following which the police also fired some rounds during which the accused was injured and were subsequently nabbed," said the DIG.

He said cops recovered four pistols, including one 9 mm Glock, two pistols (.30 bore), one pistol (.32 bore) and the scooty which had been used in the crime by the accused.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said the police were trying to ascertain from where the accused had got such sophisticated weapons. He said the entire episode was due to differences between Amarjit and Ashu Monga, which took a violent turn after a heated exchange of words.

Yesterday, the police had nabbed two of the accused, identified as Angrej Singh and Joginder Singh, allegedly involved in the crime.

The police have so far booked seven persons in the FIR, while six, including Ashu Monga , were booked in the cross FIR.
