Sangrur: Three women of a family allegedly died by suicide after consuming a poisonous substance at Kuthala village here late on Friday. The police suspected that the maternal grandmother, her daughter and granddaughter allegedly took their life owing to poor financial condition of the family. The deceased have been identified as Harmale Kaur, 65, her widowed daughter Sukhwinder Kaur, 43, and her granddaughter Amanjot Kaur, 19. Sukhwinder was married to Gurpreet Singh, a retired Army man. Gurpreet had passed away some time ago and his pension was the only source of income for the family. A local resident noticed the three bodies and informed the police, who shifted these to a hospital for post-mortem. “We have recovered an empty bottle of celphos. It has come to light the family was under financial crisis. We are conducting a thorough probe,” said Malerkotla SP Amandeep Singh Brar. TNS
