Sleuths of the Narcotics Control Cell (NCC) have arrested three suspected inter-state drug peddlers with 1.5 kg heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore. Besides, two mobile phones and a bike have been seized.
SSP Rajpal Singh said on specific inputs, a team of the NCC laid a trap and arrested Wirk, alias Vicky, Moura, both residents of Khalchian Jadid village, and Gora of Lakho ke Behram Village in the city area.
“We had received a tip-off that the suspects were allegedly involved in smuggling of drugs,” said the SSP.
The three were arrested while they were coming towards the city area on a bike. During frisking, 1.5 kg heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore in the international market was recovered from them, said the SSP.
“The police have launched a manhunt to nab two other suspects — Thomas and Sandeep — also involved in the illicit drugs trade,” said the SSP.
Sources said due to unemployment owing to the pandemic, the youths had taken to drugs peddling to make a quick buck.
“Vicky faces several cases at various police stations. The others joined him in order to make easy money. The suspects had hired a house in the city area for their operations and used to sell the contraband in small pouches,” said the SSP.
The police were ascertaining their possible links with Pakistan-based smugglers, he added. A case has been registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act against the suspects at the city police station.
