The aggrieved farmers said the short-circuit was caused by high-velocity winds on Thursday. The farmers alleged they informed fire station in Sirhind, but the firefighters reached very late.

Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhvir Singh Rai, who visited the spot, directed the officials to assess the loss. He assured the affected farmers that due compensation would be paid. Sumel Singh, XEN, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, said the report would be sent to the higher authorities soon.

Harbans Singh, incharge, Sirhind Fire Service, said unidentified persons attacked the fire engine at Talania village with bricks and sticks. He said the driver of the vehicle was injured and had to be admitted to the Civil Hospital. He said two firefighters were also injured in the attack. —
