321 fresh farm fires recorded

Fresh 321 stubble-burning cases took the total state count to 2,839 on Tuesday.

After staying above the 200-mark for three consecutive days, the daily count had breached the 400-mark on Saturday.

The numbers came down marginally to 178 on Sunday, 256 on Monday and rose again to 321 on Tuesday. Notably, 1,906 cases — a whopping 67 per cent of the total — were reported in the past seven days alone.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s home district Sangrur reported the highest number of farm fires (43) on Tuesday, followed by Tarn Taran (35), Ferozepur (33), Mansa (32), Bathinda (31), and Moga (23).

Sangrur (510), Tarn Taran (506), Ferozepur (296), Amritsar (249), Bathinda (197), and Patiala (167) account for the bulk of this season’s cases.

According to the Punjab Pollution Control Board, has been imposed in 1,009 cases, amounting to over Rs 52 lakh. The police have registered 765 FIRs.
