34 sarpanches, 606 panches win unopposed in Malerkotla

Setting a new trend in the district, at least 34 sarpanches of different categories and 606 panches have been elected unanimously.

  • The authorities said there were 338 and 1,181 aspirants in the fray for 142 posts of sarpanch and 572 of panch in the district.

District Election Officer Pallavi said the polling would not be required for posts of sarpanch at 34 villages of the district as all except one nominee had withdrawn their claims for the seats.

Similarly, 606 panches had been elected unanimously at villages falling under three subdivisions of the district.

“As many 34 sarpanches and 606 panches are deemed elected without polling as there are no candidates contesting against them in their respective constituencies,” said Pallavi, maintaining that necessary certificates would be issued to the elected candidates according to guidelines of the State Election Commission in due course of time.

Further enquiries revealed that eight sarpanches were elected unanimously from the Ahmedgarh block, while 13 each were chosen unopposed from Malerkotla and Amargarh subdivisions. As many as 254 panches were elected unopposed from Malerkotla, 150 from Ahmedgarh and 202 from Amargarh block.

Charanjit Kaur (Bapla), Sarabjit Kaur (Sandaur), Rajinder Kaur (Manki), Buta Singh (Dariyapur), Harjinder Singh (Bishangarh), Seema (Jatiwal), Gurinder Kaur (Nathoheri), Paramjit Kaur (Bahadurgarh), Harminder Kaur Bath (Hussainpura), Harjit Kaur (Akhtiarpura), Napinder Kaur (Bukkanwal), Gurmit Kaur (Fauzewal) and Sudagar Khan (Ibrahimpura) emerged winners without opposition in the Malerkotla block.

Khem Singh Rehal (Alipur), Amarpal Kaur (Salempur), Jaswinder Singh (Daulatpur), Jaganjit Kaur (Mohala), Hans Kaur (Bhattian Khurad), Kulwinder Singh (Chhatriwala), Veerinder Singh (Manvi), Balwinder Kaur (Chanduraian), Harwinder Kaur (Fauzgarh), Daljit Kaur (Dolowal), Rajwinder Kaur (Jabbomajra), Jasvir Singh (Rurki Khurad) and Jagvir Singh (Tolewal) were declared sarpanches at villages falling under the Amargarh subdivision.
