Soldier from Ropar killed in Poonch

Ropar: Sepoy Gajjan Singh (27), a resident of Pachranda village, was killed in action along with a Junior Commissioned Officer and three other soldiers in Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir on Monday. Gajjan, who married around seven months ago, was posted with 16 RR regiment.

Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh, Naik Mandeep Singh Vill, Sepoy Gajjan Singh, Sepoy Saraj Singh and Sepoy Vaisakh H were killed during a gunfight with terrorists in Surankot area.

Sepoy Gajjan, who had a word with his wife two days ago, told her that he would visit them on October 13. The Army informed the family about the tragic loss today evening. Mortal remains of Sepoy Gajjan will reach his village tomorrow. TNS

Stone of new court complex laid

Abohar/Sriganganagar: Justice Manoj Garg and Justice Inderjit Singh laid the foundation stone of a new court complex on Monday, which will be developed at a cost of Rs 111 crore, at old Sugar Mill complex. A new court complex is going to be developed in Sriganganagar after 66 years. All the courts will be accommodated in one building and there will be separate chambers for advocates on the campus.District Collector Zakir Hussain, Superintendent of Police Rajan Dushyant, District and Sessions Judge Chander Shekhar Sharma, former Rajasthan Bar Council chief Navrang Chaudhary and Bar Association chief Vijay Riwar were also also present. 60-yr-old killed by nephew

Moga: A 60-year old man was allegedly killed by his nephew at Fatehgarh Panchtoor village in Dharamkot sub-division of Moga district.

The deceased has been identified as Shingara Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Panchtoor village. The deceased’s son, Ranjit Singh, told the police that his cousin, Jagjit Singh, started thrashing his father over some petty issue after consuming liquor. He said Jagjit smashed the head of his father into a wall and he started bleeding from nose and mouth. Ranjit told the police that his father died on the spot due to internal injuries. The post-mortem report confirmed that Shingara died due to excessive bleeding and injuries on the head. The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against Jagjit. Assistant Sub-Inspector Beant Singh (Investigating Officer) said Jagjit has been arrested and further investigation was under way. TNS

Bike thief held, 10 vehicles recovered

Nangal: The police have arrested Sanjiv Kumar, a resident of Palasi village, for stealing 10 motorcycles. Deputy Superintendent of Police Raminder Singh Kahlon said cops had set up a naka at MP Di Kothi on Sunday and Sanjiv was nabbed along with a stolen motorcycle.

Kahlon said during questioning Sanjiv revealed that he and his accomplice Bhag Singh, a resident of Palasi village, used to steal motorcycles from Nangal, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, Una, Santokhgarh and Mehatpur (Himachal Pradesh). A total of 10 motorcycles have been recovered from the accused, said the DSP. TNS
