Malerkotla Deputy Commissioner Pallavi said the administration had launched a programme to raise the standard of living of rural women and their families through allied professions under several welfare schemes of the Centre and the state government.

“Having coordinated with all stakeholders, including beneficiary women and Corporate Social Responsibility partner, we have organised a workshop for forty women who were imparted training in bakery products,” said Pallavi, adding that necessary help would be provided for setting up small scale bakeries.

Sukhpreet Kaur of Ranwan village said she had already selected a suitable location for setting up a bakery on the Malerkotla to Khanna road. “Though the organisers have assured to arrange funds for setting up the unit, I intend to start the venture with my own savings,” said Sukhpreet.
