Amritsar, January 19
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Amritsar rural police today confiscated 5.2-kg heroin, an AK-47 submachine gun and a pistol near the Daoke border outpost on the International Border.
An AK magazine along with seven cartridges, besides seven pistol bullets, was also seized. The consignment was hidden near a tube-well located across the barbed fencing. As per the police, the contraband and weapons were sneaked into the Indian territory by Pakistan-based drug peddler Bilal Sandhu of Maniala village there.
The police recently got a tip-off that Sandhu and some contacts in India recently pushed a consignment of contraband and weapons from across the border near the Daoke border outpost.
The information was shared with the BSF authorities and a joint search operation was carried out in the area. The police team was headed by DSP (Detective) Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, Majitha ASP Abhimanyu Rana and Gharinda police station SHO Maninder Singh.
During the operation, five packets containing heroin and arms and ammunition were found near the tube-well.
A case under the NDPS Act and Arms Act had been registered against unknown persons. Investigations were on to identify Sandhu’s contacts here. The police were monitoring the activities of smugglers out on bail and history-sheeters. — TNS
