Sangrur: Some members of the Bhawanigarh Truck Operators’ Association have allegedly misappropriated Rs 1.34 crore. Operators have submitted a complaint to Sangrur Deputy Commissioner (DC) and demanded a high-level inquiry. “As per records of the association, from February 2, 2020 to February 2,2021 the total income of the union was Rs 2.22 crore, but members of the management committee gave details of only Rs 88 lakh. It shows that funds have been misappropriated,” said Randeep Deol, BJP district chief, Sangrur. Sangrur DC Ramvir, he confirmed that he has received the complaint. “I have directed the ADC to conduct a thorough probe,” said the DC. TNS
Three killed in road accident
Abohar: A driver and helper were killed after their truck collided head on with another heavy vehicle on the national highway 62 in Sriganganagar on Thursday night. The driver of the second truck suffered grievous injuries. Cops said the deceased have been identified as Manoj Meghwal (30) and Raju Nayak (32) of Karmisar in Bikaner. The driver of the second truck identified as Rajpal of Dudu in Jaipur has been admitted to Trauma Center in Suratgarh. In another mishap, an overspeeding SUV collided with a vehicle near Jiwan Nagar on Nohar Road. As a result, Pawan alias Indra Mohan, a resident of Chaiyan village, who was in the SUV died. His cousin, Rakesh Jat of Nohar, was admitted to the Hanumangarh Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Bikaner. OC
Prof Bansal conferred with National Eminent Engineer Award
Chandigarh: The Institution of Engineers has conferred Dr Savina Bansal, professor and former Dean, MRSPTU (Bathinda), with the ‘National Eminent Engineer Award’ for her outstanding achievements and contributions made to the profession of electronic and telecommunication engineering. The other awardees include Dr Harpreet Singh from Thapar Institute (1963 batch), Patiala, and Pawan Garg from Punjab Engineering College (1969 batch), Chandigarh. TNS
Overflowing sewage irks residents
Muktsar: Irked over sewage flowing on the road, some residents of Bura Gujjar Road on Friday held a protest for nearly two hours. Anurag Sharma, a BJP activist, said, “We blocked the road demanding a permanent solution to overflowing sewage. After the Executive Engineer assured us of the speedy action, we lifted our protest.” TNS
Dhigan appointed vice-chairman
Chandigarh: The state government has appointed Naresh Dhigan as vice-chairman of the Punjab Scheduled Caste Land Development and Finance Corporation. An official informed that Dhigan has assumed the charge. The government has appointed Bhag Das Bharat as non-official director of the Board of Directors of the Punjab Scheduled Caste Land Development and Finance Corporation. TNS
