Faridkot: 5 held for foodgrain theft

A week ago, nine persons with covered faces entered a godown of the government purchase agency, Warehousing Corporation, at Jaito. They thrashed the security guards and took away 70 bags of rice. The police said they arrested five of the suspects today.

The police said the suspects — Vicky Singh and Balkaran Singh of Goneana, Amandeep Singh, Krishan Kumar, and Parminder Singh of Muktsar — were arrested by the Jaito police after searching for them at various places in the state.

Faridkot SP (investigation) said the police were searching for the four other suspects involved in the case. He said questioning of the arrested suspects revealed they have been stealing food grain from the government and private agencies and other loot crimes for a long time.

The SP said a preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspects had thieved at various places including Malout, Jalalabad, Fazilka, Jatio and Bajakhana.
