‘50 bombs in Punjab’ remark: Congress leaders come in support of Partap Bajwa

In an interview to a private television channel, Bajwa had claimed, 'I have come to know that 50 bombs have reached Punjab. Of this, 18 have exploded, 32 are yet to go off.'

Congress MPs, MLAs and senior leaders on Sunday came out in support of Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa on his “50 bombs in Punjab” remark.

They alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party Government tried to intimidate Bajwa by sending intelligence officials to his residence to question him.

The Congress MPs, MLAs and leaders asked the state government not to divert the attention of people from the serious threat that has been posed to the peace and harmony in Punjab. They said that what Bajwa had revealed was already in the public domain.

The leaders drew the attention of the government towards over twenty incidents of grenade attacks on police stations, religious places and residence of a senior BJP leader, besides desecration of the statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. 

The senior Congress leaders reiterated that the threat to peace and harmony in Punjab was real and serious towards which Bajwa had drawn everybody’s attention, while the government was trying to divert the attention.  They asserted that the Congress would continue to hold the government accountable.

Signatories to the statements included PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjeet Aujla, Dr Amar Singh, Sher Singh Ghubaya )all MPs) Aruna Chaudhary, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbindar Singh Sarkaria, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Rana Gurjit Singh, Avtar Henry Junior, Sukhwinder Kotli, Barinder Meet Pahra, Naresh Puri, Kuldeep Dhillon, Balwinder Dhaliwal (all MLAs) former MPs Jasbir Singh Dimpa and Mohammad Sadique, senior leaders OP Soni, Avtar Henry Senior, Rana KP Singh, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Dr Rajkumar Verka, Pawan Adhia, Sukhminder Danny, Sukhpal Bhullar and others. 

Besides, all the District Congress Committee presidents from across the state also condemned the attempts to intimidate the Leader of the Opposition.

Bajwa's claims came amid several grenade attacks in the state in recent months.
