Six armed assailants on Sunday morning entered a private hospital along the Kotkapura-Bathinda bypass in Muktsar town and vandalised that. Around an hour before the incident, one of the assailants reportedly reached the hospital chasing a female worker, but he was made to leave the place by other employees.
Later, he came back in a jeep with some other persons wielding swords and sticks. They smashed windowpanes of the hospital and tried to break open a door using swords. A man, who had come to inquire about the wellbeing of a patient, tried to intervene, but was injured.
Thereafter, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) lodged a protest by blocking the road outside the hospital for nearly two hours, demanding a stern action against the assailants. Some social activists also joined the protest. They claimed the law and order situation had deteriorated in the town.
Muktsar DSP Satnam Singh reached the spot and assured that a stern action would be taken against the miscreants. He claimed one of the attackers had been identified. The DSP, however, did not reveal the identity of the suspect.
