Six months after they took the state government’s exams for recruitment of Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), over 200 selected candidates still await joining.
The candidates fear the joining will be delayed due to the implementation of elections code of conduct.
The state government, through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), had conducted exams for recruitment of 50 sub divisional engineers (civil and mechanical) at the department of water supply and sanitation, and 156 sub divisional engineers (civil) at its nine different departments in July 2021. The results of the written exams were declared the same month, but the final result was released after a gap of five months in December.
Selected candidates, who are awaiting joining, said: “The state government earlier delayed the conduct of interviews for the posts for nearly five months. Now that the interviews have been conducted and results declared, the final joint counselling session, followed by joining, are pending. We fear the recruitment could get delayed in the name of election code of conduct once it is implemented.”
A senior official at the Public Works Department (PWD) said: “The file for the recruitment has been received at the office and put up for further process. The recruitment process for the posts at various departments will be carried out together. A decision on the matter will be taken soon.”
