60 more farm fires, Tarn Taran tops list

The total number of farm fires in the state has reached 621 with 196 (the highest this season) coming from Tarn Taran alone, followed by Amritsar (144).
Last year, the state had reported 1,749 cases till October 25.
The police have registered 215 FIRs, including 58 in Amritsar and 68 in Tarn Taran, under Section 223 of the BNS for alleged violation of orders against stubble burning. The Revenue Department has made 214 “red entries” in land records of violators, a move that bars farmers from availing loan, mortgaging or selling land, or obtaining gun licence.
The AQI in Bathinda (223) and Ludhiana (204) districts was in the “Poor” category. It was “moderate” in Jalandhar (152), Amritsar (124), Patiala (123) and Mandi Gobindgarh (115).
