65 delegates cross over to Pakistan for World Punjabi Conference in Lahore
A 65-member delegation from India crossed over to Pakistan through the Wagah-Attari border on Saturday for participating in the 34th World Punjabi Conference to be held in Lahore from January 19 to 21.
The invitation for the conference had come from former Pakistan Prime Minister and chairman of World Punjabi Conference Fakhar Zaman. The delegation is led by coordinator of the Indian chapter of the World Punjabi Conference Sehajpreet Singh Mangat and chairman of the Indian chapter Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh.
Eminent poet and chairman of the Punjabi Virasat Lok Akademi Gurbhajan Singh Gill and recipient of this year’s Bhai Veer Singh award by the Department of Languages Navdeep Singh Gill are also part of the delegation.
Mangat said Sufism was the theme of the conference. The Indian delegation included eminent personalities associated with the fields of literature, art, culture, journalism, as well as former IAS, IPS officers, professors etc.
New books published in Gurmukhi, along with Shahmukhi, by Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Sehajpreet Singh Mangat, Trailochan Lochi and Navdeep Singh Gill would also be released during the conference.
The delegation will also visit Nankana Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, Gujranwala and Kasur during their Pakistan visit.
