7.4 kg ICE smuggled from Pak seized in Amritsar village

The Border Security Force (BSF) has confiscated over 7.4 kg methamphetamine, popularly known as ICE or crystal myth, from Mode border village here.

The contraband, worth several crores in the international market, was trafficked using an assembled drone that was neutralised by the BSF at the international border. It crashed in the agricultural fields around 2.30 am.

Acting on a tip-off by the BSF intelligence wing, a late night strategic operation was launched along the border, leading to the seizure of ICE, said the BSF authorities.

“Around 2.30 am, a search operation led to the seizure of an assembled drone with which a bag was tied. Seven packets of ICE, having gross weight 7.470 kg, were found in the bag,” said BSF spokesman.

Over the past couple of years, there has been a rise in ICE smuggling. As per the police, 22 kg ICE was seized in 2024 as compared to just 2 kg in 2023. In 2022, the special task force seized around 22 kg ICE from Ludhiana. However, at that time, police officials thought it to be an isolated case of drug being smuggled to other parts of the country.

“ICE is a party drug, which is popular in metro cities. There are few takers of this drug in the border state. Punjab is only a transit route for the drug,” said a senior police official.
