In the past, most of us have participated in a number of cycling expeditions across the country. Our common interest is to promote the message of “Fit-India” through cycling,” said Nirupama at a reception organised by the Abohar Paddlers Club near the state highway today afternoon.

In December 2017, my friends, who love cycling, and I took a 18-day cycling tour from Pune to Kanyakumari with a mission to spread the message of “save environment, adopt cycling”. We covered about 1,850-km and thereafter we went on tours to Karnataka and Gujarat, ranging 600 to 700 kms each, Nirupama said.

On our way to Jammu and Kashmir, we travelled through states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan and entered Punjab today. We are taking a support vehicle with us to take care of our belongings and for help in case of emergencies. At each halt, we try to spread awareness about ‘Khelo India’ campaign launched by the Government of India and also motivate people to shun tobacco and drugs. People in every town showered us with affection and appreciation and we didn’t face any problem anywhere,” he added.
The team members responded warmly to the slogan of ‘Jo Bole So Nihaal, Sat Sri Akal’ when the Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh management was offering ‘siropas’.
