To check distillation and marketing of illicit liquor that had caused huge losses to the state exchequer and were also responsible for deaths in Punjab and Rajasthan, the police from both the states today stormed into a forest area near the Gang (Bikaner) canal but distillers reportedly fled.
The police seized about 8,000 litres of lahan that was dumped in deep pits. They seized 30 “bhathis” and 10 drums from the spot. Cases were registered under the Excise Act. Earlier, the police had destroyed about 20,000 litres of lahan near the canal. –OC
