The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized 8.5 kg heroin dropped by a drone near Balharwal village along the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar.
Such a heavy drug payload has been seized after a long time, highlighting the fact that bigger drones, including hexacopters, were being used for cross-border drug peddling by anti-national entities in the neighbouring nation.
BSF authorities said in a statement on Wednesday said that acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding smuggling in Balharwal area, an ambush was laid near the anticipated drone dropping zone. Around 7.45 am, the troops heard the sound of something heavy falling on the ground. The troops later found a big packet with gross weight of 8.560 kg containing around 15 small packets of heroin.
“The big packet was wrapped in yellow adhesive tape along with five illuminating strips and a steel ring attached to the packet, indicating a possible case of consignment dropping by a drone,” BSF spokesman said.
