The Jalandhar Commissionerate of Police has arrested eight gangsters of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang with the seizure of weapons. They were reportedly involved in extortion, ransom and other criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said on January 27, the owner of a local showroom had received an extortion call demanding Rs 50 lakh. He said an FIR had been registered on January 29 under Sections 387 and 34 of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act and investigation into the matter began.
Sharma said, it became evident that the gang members had systematically gathered information about industrialists and businessmen.
The CP said based on investigation, the police arrested eight gangsters identified as Sanjay Bawa of Mohalla Karar Khan, Deepak Kumar of Ratan Nagar, Gajinder Rajpurat, Manoj, Pappu, Deepak Kumar, Radhe of New Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar and Abhishek Gill of Gurdev Nagar. He said all gangsters had been arrested from Dhobi Ghat near TV Tower here.
He said one pistol of .30 bore with five cartridges, one pistol of .32 bore with five cartridges, one country-made gun .315 bore, four magazines, one motorcycle and two scooters had been recovered from them.
Swapan Sharma said during investigation, it came to light that the operations of these gangsters extended beyond borders, with identified links to Suraj residing in England.
The CP said the gang was involved in life-threatening calls and letters to extract money from people. Investigation with a major thrust on fetching details about the international number used for extortion calls was already going on. Swapan Sharma said no criminal background of all the eight gangsters had been traced so far but a detailed investigation was already going on.
