Fatehgarh Sahib/ Abohar, June 3
A joint team of the district Excise and Taxation Department and CIA staff, Sirhind, raided a farmhouse at Bhamarsi Jer village and recovered 80 cases of liquor.
As per the sticker on the bottle, it was meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh. The team also arrested two persons whereas one managed to escape.
SSP Amneet Kondal said the police had launched a campaign against liquor smugglers and people were coming forward to provide information. She said the police got a tip-off that Kamaljit Singh, alias Bachi, a resident of Lohar Majra village, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurjant Singh, alias Janta, a resident of Tarn Taran and Sukhwinder Singh, alias Jassi, working as a salesman at a wine shop, were involved in the smuggling of illicit liquor. She said a police party conducted a raid and recovered 80 cases of liquor and arrested two of the accused.
In Abohar, 37 litre lahan was seized from Charanjit Kaur and Gaura Rani of Ajit Nagar, 150 litre lahan and 25 bottles of liquor from Gurcharan Singh Dodewala, 30 litre lahan from Jaswant Singh of Dhani Chirag, 24 litre lahan from Jaswinder Singh Alamgarh, 132 bottles from Paramjeet Singh Pamma and Sher Singh of Tootwala, 36 bottles of Haryana-made liquor from Vikram Vicky of Azeemgarh, 50 litre lahan and 20 bottles from Sahib Ram and Bittu of Dhani Bhatawali, 20 bottles each from Shanker Lal Mehrana and Prem Singh Himmatpura and 12 bottles from Sheilu Singh of Prem Nagar. The accused have been booked under the Excise Act.
