80-year-old woman murdered by burglars
Panic gripped the sleepy village of Banwala Hanuwanta of Fazilka district when an 80-year-old woman Harbans Kaur, was allegedly murdered by unidentified burglars who looted household items at around 1 am.
The incidence occurred while the elderly couple was alone at home, as their three children and their families have been residing in Australia for years. Nirbhaya Singh (82) stated in his recorded statement to the Sadar Police, Fazilka that three unidentified persons jumped over the main gate and broke into the house with the intention of looting valuables.
Nirbhaya Singh and his wife Harbans Kaur were sleeping in separate adjoining rooms. Upon hearing the noise, Nirbhaya Singh came out of his room and noticed that the burglars had tied his wife’s legs and were demanding information about the gold and cash in the house.
When Nirbhaya Singh tried to intervene, the assailants tied his legs with his turban and threw him aside. Harbans Kaur resisted, the burglars allegedly inflicted injuries on her, killed her, and fled with the loot.
Nirbhaya Singh later untied his legs and informed the police. He mentioned that the almirahs were found open but he was unable to provide the details of the loss due to his state of shock.
